Short, honest answers to the questions we get most often about choosing, wearing and caring for a hijab. If yours is not here, just ask us.
Most slipping comes from a smooth undercap and a slippery fabric working against each other. A grippier cotton or velvet undercap helps a lot, and so does a fabric with some texture. The easiest fix is an instant hijab with a sewn-in cap and magnets, like NurAmira, where there is nothing loose to slide. We break it all down in our how to stop slipping guide.
Start with something forgiving: a jersey or an instant style that does not need pinning or a perfect wrap. You want your first hijab to feel easy, not like a fight. See our best beginner hijabs comparison.
Jersey is soft, stretchy and stays put with no pins, great for everyday. Chiffon is light and elegant but can be slippery and see-through, so it needs a good undercap. Modal is breathable and drapes beautifully. Full breakdown in our fabric guide.
Loose magnets can shift, and around small children they are a real hazard if dropped. The safest option is magnets sewn into the hijab so nothing comes loose, which is how NurAmira is made. More in our hijab magnets guide.
Hold it up to a window: if you can clearly see your hand through it, it will show under daylight or flash. A matching undercap and a more opaque fabric solve most cases. See is your hijab see-through.
Cold wash, gentle cycle in a mesh bag, and air dry. Fold chiffon and satin rather than hanging them so they keep their shape. Our care guide covers each fabric.
